Sheffield Sabres 26 - 0 Huddersfield Hawks
Concord Sports Centre, Sheffield
Sunday 28th February 2010
———————————
The Huddersfield Hawks still have yet to score against the Sheffield Sabres, but put in a gutsy performance in going down 26-0 to the play-off hopefuls.
As was the case with last seasons meeting, the Sabres took advantage of good field position throughout the first half. Sam Broughton in particular made the most of some excellent blocking up front to put the home side into a 20-0 lead at the break.
Huddersfield Hawks 12 - 32 Leeds Celtics
Fartown Sports Complex
Sunday 14th February 2010
The Huddersfield Hawks drop back to 1-4 after this Sunday’s defeat, but can be pleased with their performance against a well-drilled Leeds Celtics outfit.
The Celtics took the lead on their first drive and followed up with a two-point conversion, but the Hawks defence - which has been improving all year - managed to cut the deficit back. Following two excellent coffin corner punts by Dan Starkey, the defence then pounced on the Celtics backfield, forcing two safeties and bringing the score back to 8-4.
This Sunday sees two West Yorkshire teams go head to head as the Hawks take on Leeds Celtics.
By a quirk of the fixture list, this is the first time the two sides meet in Huddersfield, with all three of the previous meetings taking place at the home of the Celtics. The visitors come into the game off the back of an impressive 16-6 victory over cross-city rivals Leeds Carnegie, and take a 3-1 record into the game.
The Hawks, on the other hand, will be well rested after their last bye week of the season. Last time out, the Hawks eventually succumbed 8-7 to the unbeaten Lancaster Bombers, and will be looking to bounce back and claim their second win of the season.
Huddersfield Hawks 7 - 8 Lancaster Bombers
Sunday, 3st January 2010
Fartown Sports Complex
—————–
The Hawks were left to reflect on their most disappointing result to date after an 8-7 defeat to the unbeaten Lancaster Bombers.
The opening exchanges of the game suggested that the game was Huddersfield’s to lose, with a pair of 3-and-outs on defence followed up by an impressive attacking drive, which was topped of by running-back Rob Lafferty’s first touchdown for the team.
Tomorrow sees the Huddersfield Hawks return to action after the Christmas break, taking on the in-form Lancaster Bombers.
The Hawks will be looking to continue their improved form from the pre-Christmas game against Manchester, in which they ran out 20-9 victors.
Lancaster meanwhile enter the game unbeaten, having defeated Lincoln, Derby and Liverpool on their way to 3-0.
Two of the Hawks former defensive playmakers begin their post-university football career this weekend after joining clubs playing in the national divisions of Britain and France.
Sy Hill, who played for the Hawks between 2006 and 2009, has begun training with BAFL Division 2 side Maidstone Pumas, while former defensive captain Brice Marchand will be joining up with his new teammates with Les Falcons de Bron-Villeurbanne, who play in the Third Division in his native France.
As the new year begins, many BAFL teams will be starting their pre-season training in the next few weeks. If you need more information, visit the BAFL website.
Hawks record in 2009: 5-4
As 2009 draws to a close, the Huddersfield Hawks can now reflect on a year where they recorded their first win since the club’s formation in 2006.
The year started in dramatic fashion for the Hawks, who, after 12 straight defeats, recorded a 6-0 victory over the Lancaster Bombers. The emotional reaction of players and coaches alike will never be forgotten by those in attendance, and the momentum taken from this win spurred the team on for the remainder of the season.
Huddersfield Hawks 20 - 9 Manchester Tyrants
Sunday 13th December, 2009
Fartown Sports Complex
———————————-
The Hawks picked up their first victory of the season with a superlative second half performance against Manchester Tyrants.
After a slow start form the home side, it was the Tyrants who took the lead with an outside run, but a good stop on the 2-point conversion try kept the lead to six.
The Hawks play their first game in a month this Sunday as they welcome the rookie Manchester Tyrants to the Fartown Sports Complex.
The Lancashire side come into the game at 1-2, on the back of their first ever win, a 14-0 victory over the second year Liverpool Fury. The Hawks, meanwhile have been frustrated by the recent poor weather which has twice put pay to their fixture against York, as well as postponing the tie with Lincoln.
It seemed for a while that this fixture would also fall victim to the weather, but hard work by the committees of both teams saw the fixture reversed.
